How to Connect a Car DVD Player to an Amp and Sub Woofer

An amplifier will help increase the sound quality in your car, and a subwoofer is for those who want to hear the low sounds very loud. It is possible to install these devices and connect your in-car DVD player to them if you have one in the car. These steps can vary depending on the car and how pre-set the amplifier and subwoofer's equipment is. It's best to talk with a car electronics expert for what's best for your exact vehicle. You only need to worry about connecting the DVD player if your amplifier and subwoofer are already installed.

Disconnect the car's negative battery terminal, loosening its cable clamp nut with your wrench. Make sure this cable is as far away from the negative terminal as possible.

    • 2

Mount your amplifier in a secure location that is not touching metal; the passenger floorboard is a good location for a small amplifier. Mount the subwoofer in a location like the trunk.

    • 3

Connect the wires to the amplifier, sliding the terminal rings onto the color-coordinated terminals and screwing the fasteners in place by hand. Red is for power and black is ground.

    • 4

Strip 1/2-inch of insulation from the wire leads with wire cutters if needed.

    • 5

Route the red wire through a hole in the firewall to the battery, loosen the positive cable's clamp nut and connect the wire to the terminal, tightening the clamp nut around the wire.

    • 6

Route the black wire to the chassis and mount it underneath a screw, loosening the screw with a screwdriver.

    • 7

Connect the DVD player's audio output to the amplifier's input using red/white RCA cables. Make sure these cables are as far away from the power/ground cables as possible to avoid noise interference.

    • 8

Connect your set of output wires to the amplifier's output terminals, route them to the trunk and connect them to the subwoofer's input terminals. Remember to connect positive to positive and negative to negative.

    • 9

      Reconnect the battery's negative cable.
