A deluxe converter program, Home DVD Copy's "Easy DVD Ripper & Converter" includes several features that make converting from VCD easier. You can use utilities that select specific chapters, convert several files at once or select by specific time range. A subscription to the program also comes with a technical support service. (See Resources 1.)

Desk Share's "Digital Media Converter" is another program that can do more than bare-bones conversion. The intuitive interface requires little more than selecting the file you want to convert and setting the output format to MPEG4. You can also select the amount you want the output file to be compressed if the amount of space it will take up is an issue. (See Resources 2.)

Though it lacks the features of the other programs on this list, "Any Video Converter" is worth a chance, especially if you are on a budget. The free program can convert between a wide variety of common video formats including VCD to MPEG4. (See Resources 3.)

How to Convert VCD to MPEG4
Video Compact Disc, or VCD, files are most commonly associated with video CDs or laser discs. MPEG4 is also a digital video format and is commonly used on the Internet. There are several converters available online, many of which free, that can convert VCD files to MPEG4 with only a few clicks. While VCDs can also hold information like chapters, menus and scene selection, this information will not be retained on any disc converted to an MPEG4 file.
