How to Design a Banquet Hall

Banquet halls have been used historically used to celebrate religious and political events and other large gatherings. The Roman emperor Nero's banquet hall was circular and moved to imitate the Earth. The 50-foot-by-13-foot main dining room rotated by the power of constant flowing water. In the ceiling, ivory panels opened up to disperse perfume and flowers onto his guests. Banquets were at the heart of all Roman activities and you can design your own banquet hall for any special event.

Find a location for your banquet or large reception. Keep in mind how many people it can hold, the type of event and the costs. Also, you will decide whether it is a sit-down meal or a buffet reception. Ask the manager of the banquet hall the rules regarding decorations, music, and extra lighting.

Measure the space of the room, and draw in where you want the tables. You will need circular tables for every 10 guests, and a rectangular table will be used for the guests of honor or speakers. Tables may be needed for a buffet, and a bar may be required. You also need to keep in mind having rectangular tables near the entrance for guests to check in and possibly a gift table.
