How to Install the Honda Civic EX Headliner

The headliner in a Honda Civic EX is straightforward and simple. No extra accessories or electronics are mounted on the ceiling and through the headliner, other than the dome light in the center. Installing the headliner in a Honda Civic EX is something you can do yourself without having to pay an upholstery or body shop. Using common tools, the headliner can be installed in less than 30 minutes by someone with little automotive experience.

Turn the headliner so that it fits into the Civic through the front door. The rear doors don't open as wide as the front doors. If the Civic is a hatchback model, pull the headliner in through the back hatch door. Make sure the headliner is facing down and the back side is facing the ceiling.

Press the headliner up against the ceiling near the front windshield or have someone hold it there for you. Install the plastic trim that surrounds the ceiling by placing it over the edge of the headliner and tightening the Phillips screws through the trim. Once the front is installed, move to the rear and then the sides.

Install the overhead dome light by pulling the light bulb and wiring through the center hole and into the plastic light housing. Replace and tighten the two Phillips screws on each side of the light. Press the light cover into place and apply light pressure to snap it in.
