Turn on your HP Officejet J3680 if it's not already powered on. Load white, unused A4 or letter paper in the paper tray.
- 2
Lift up the ink cartridge compartment door on the right side of the machine. If you're loading replacement ink cartridges, remove the existing cartridges from the cartridge carrier -- press down on the top of the tricolor cartridge to unlock it, pull it from the slot and set it aside, then repeat with the black cartridge.
- 3
Remove the pink tabbed tape carefully from your new tricolor ink cartridge. Tilt the front of the cartridge down slightly and then insert it into the left slot. Push up on the cartridge front to lock it into the slot.
- 4
Repeat the process with the black cartridge and the right slot.
- 5
Flip down and close the ink cartridge compartment door when finished.
- 6
Push the "OK" button on the control panel. Wait for the machine to align the cartridges. Dispose of the alignment page that prints.

How to Load Ink Cartridges in an HP J3680
HP has designed the Officejet J3680 all-in-one office machine so that it only needs two ink cartridges to print -- HP tricolor and HP black. The design includes a cartridge carrier that holds the cartridges for ink distribution to print media. Whether you're inserting cartridges into the machine for the first time or replacing existing cartridges, you must access this carrier -- located under an ink cartridge compartment door on the right side of the printer -- to load the cartridges.
