How to Locate a 3G SIM Card

3G phones are usually smart phones, capable of accessing the Internet, downloading and running apps and storing your personal data. Most cell phones use a SIM card to hold your information, such as a phone book and settings. The SIM card can be in a different place on different 3G phones, so knowing where to look will save you time. Remember when opening a phone that it has small and delicate parts, so rather than forcing anything that seems stuck, push gently to avoid breaking it.

Slide off the battery cover on the back of your phone, usually by pushing and sliding down until it clicks open, then pulling the backing off the phone. The majority of SIM cards are located in the back of the phone, either near or below the battery. Look for a small rectangle of light-colored plastic with a corner cut off.

Remove the battery from your phone, after saving any changes and turning off your phone. In many cases, you'll need to remove the battery to get the SIM out.

    • 3

Put your finger on the exposed end of the SIM card and slide it out from its cover. If an additional latch needs to be opened, slide it to the "Open" position, then remove the SIM card.

Not every phone uses a SIM card, so if you're having trouble finding it, refer to your manual or the manufacturer's website.

    SIM On Top

    • 1

Look at the top of your phone for a narrow strip of rubber or plastic in the middle with a small hole on one side. iPhones, and some other 3G models, have the SIM card on the top of the phone.

    • 2

Unbend a paper clip and insert one end into the small hole at the end of the strip. Push down and the slot will pop out.

    • 3

Pull out the little plastic strip and pop the SIM card out of its holder.
