How to Make Trivia Cards With Hidden Answers

When you're playing a trivia game, it can be disappointing to accidentally catch the answer to the question when you draw the card. However, if you hid the answer somehow in such a way you can only reveal it when you actually want to reveal the answer, you could save yourself that early reveal. These cards are actually relatively easy to make, the toughest part is to come up with some challenging questions.
  • Cards

    • 1

Write out a handful of trivia questions and answers to put on the cards. Write questions that probe to a very specific and obscure fact. Come up with at least 20 questions, then eliminate the five least interesting or challenging ones.

    • 2

Write the answer to the card in squared-off letters with a green marker. Make them look a little unlike actual letters, and more like boxes.

    • 3

Draw yellow and red boxy lines and square squiggles over the answer to obscure it. Don't blot out the text entirely, but enough to make it confusing and hard to read.

    • 4

Write the question on the top half of the card in a regular font.

    • 5

Repeat for the other questions you have to write.

    Viewer

    • 1

Fold a fresh card in half. Mark out a rectangle 1/2 inch in from all sides of the rectangle.

    • 2

Cut that rectangle out of both layers of the card.

    • 3

Insert a piece of red cellophane into the fold of the card. Glue the two halves of the card together to create a viewer. Leave this piece to dry for a few minutes.

    • 4

Hold the viewer over the obscured answer to your trivia card. The answer will appear inside the viewer because the yellow and red text will disappear.
