How to Mount a Rear View Camera

Rear view cameras mount to the back of your vehicle and display the area directly behind you. The view displayed is similar to the view while looking into a rear view mirror or side mirrors. Two basic mounting designs are available: a license plate mount and a multi-surface mount. The platform mount gives you the option of placing the camera high on the back of your vehicle to see over anything you may be towing. Several brands use these methods for mounting a rear view camera. The basic instructions for mounting both types are similar.
  • License Plate Frame Mount

    • 1

Remove the license plate frame and the license plate with a screwdriver from the rear of your vehicle.

    • 2

Install a partial license plate frame camera mount. Align the camera mount over the license plate and position them both over the screw holes. Run the screws through the camera mount, and then through the license plate, and secure with a Philips head screwdriver.

    • 3

Install a full frame camera mount. Remove the camera-mounting bracket from the frame using a Philips head screwdriver. Route the camera wires through the camera-mounting bracket and secure the camera to the mount with the two included hex screws and the hex driver.

    • 4

Loosen the angle adjustment screw on the camera-mounting bracket until the camera is stable but adjustable. Align the top of the camera to the top of the license plate frame and use the four screws to attach the bracket to the frame. Place the full camera mount frame over the license plate and reattach to the vehicle with four screws.

    Multi-Surface Mount

    • 1

Clean and dry the area where the camera will be mounted using soap and water.

    • 2

Loosen the screws on the mounting bracket until the camera is adjustable but stable.

    • 3

Test the placement of the camera by using adhesive tape to secure the mounting bracket to the surface, and ensure the camera will have an unobstructed view.

    • 4

Remove the camera bracket from the surface. Peel the paper cover off the back of the mounting bracket to reveal the adhesive surface. Carefully press the mounting bracket into place using your fingers until secure.
