How to Obtain a Business License in Oklahoma

The state of Oklahoma does not offer a general license for all businesses. The license you would need for your company will depend on the nature of the business and your profession. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce provides a tool you can use to determine the appropriate license for your business as well as the organization responsible for issuing the license.

Visit the Oklahoma Department of Commerce's Business Registration System (see "Resources"). Click the "Register my Business" button to start the wizard.

    • 2

Enter your information into the fields on the "Getting Started" page. The necessary information includes your name, your contact information, the name of your company and the type of business you are running. Click "Continue."

    • 3

Answer the questions on the following page. Most of these questions require "yes" or "no" answers. Click the radio button beside the appropriate answer.

    • 4

Click "Continue" to proceed. The system will analyze the information you provide and produce a list of the licenses, permits or registrations you need. The page will also contain links to the websites of the regulating organizations and links to the application forms.

    • 5

Click the "Go to and complete this form/process" button under the license you need. This will cause a transition to the form on the website of the regulating office.

    • 6

Read and follow the directions to complete and submit the forms. Some organizations may allow you to submit their forms online and make a payment, where necessary, with a credit card. Other organizations may require that you print the forms and mail, fax or submit them in person. If it is necessary to mail the form or submit it in person, you may pay for the license with a check or money order. Faxed forms should include credit card details for payment.
