Red Cedar is a popular choice for siding a building thanks to its durability, natural weather resistance and attractive appearance. However, any material that is not correctly maintained will fade and decay over time. Make sure that you maintain and preserve your cedar siding at least once a year to maintain its excellent qualities.

  Use a brush and some mild detergent to rinse the wood, cleaning away any grime or dirt that has built up over time. If you are cleaning a large area, you may find it easier to use a pressure washer to clean the cedar.

  Leave the wood to dry for 48 hours - you want to avoid sealing in moisture as this will cause the cedar to decay.

  Paint wood sealant over the cedar using a paintbrush. You should apply more than one coat to be sure that the whole area is protected.
