How to Put on a Vent Visor

Vent visors are designed to let air into the windows of your vehicle while keeping rain and snow out. Vent visors come in many shapes and sizes for all types of vehicles and are taped to the window, rather than screwed on, so as not to do damage to the vehicle by drilling holes. The process for installing a vent visor is identical regardless of vehicle. The amount of windows and the size of the visor are the only two variables in this project.

Add 3 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with water and shake the mixture thoroughly.

    • 2

Spray the mixture on a clean rag and wipe the surface of the door panel where the vent visor will be installed. It is important to have a clean surface for the vent visor to mount on as it is held in place with special adhesive tape.

    • 3

Wipe the entire surface dry with a dry rag. Repeat Step 2 if there is any dirt or grime left on the upper door panel above the window.

    • 4

Turn the vent visor onto its backside. Peel off about 1 inch of tape from the back of the vent visor at the end. Bend the tape so that it protrudes from the top of the visor when pressed against the vehicle. Peel the tape from the other end of the visor about 1 inch from the end. Bend the tape so that it also protrudes from the top of the visor when pressed against the vehicle.

    • 5

Align the visor onto the top of the door panel, just above the window. You do not want the visor to sit too low to avoid hitting the side mirror or obstructing your view. The rule of thumb for installing a vent visor is to locate it 1/2 to 3/8 of an inch above the window.

    • 6

Press the vent visor against the car at one end once you have it properly aligned. Go to the opposite end and peel the tape upward with one hand. Press the vent visor onto the door panel with your other hand after removing the tape.

    • 7

Press the entire vent visor against the vehicle once more after peeling all of the tape away from the visor.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for each window on which you are installing a vent visor.
