Remove the empty HP 940 cartridge from the printer.

Slice the paper label on the cartridge where the bottom cap and main body of the cartridge meet, then remove the bottom cap.

Locate the plastic ball inside the refilling hole and take it out with a ball remover. A ball remover is often included with inkjet refill kits found in electronic stores. It is essentially a corkscrew that is threaded into the plastic ball.

Take the plunger out of your syringe and insert the syringe into the open refilling hole. Blow into the end of the syringe to expand the bag inside the HP 940.

Put the plunger back into the syringe, attach the blunt needle to the syringe and fill it with 10 milliliters of color printer ink.

Fill the cartridge with the ink by inserting the syringe into the refilling hole and pressing the plunger.

Push the plastic ball back into the refilling hole to seal it.

Turn the filled HP 940 cartridge at a 45-degree angle, then insert the empty syringe into the outlet tube with the plunger pushed down and press the center pump on the cartridge a few times to release air.

Pull the plunger up on the syringe to remove any remaining air inside the cartridge.

Replace the bottom cap to the cartridge, then return the cartridge to your HP printer.
