How to Remove Gummed Labels With WD-40

Labels can be found on just about any item you purchase. From price tags to sizing information, labels are use in a variety of ways to inform the consumer of important details. Unfortunately, these labels use adhesive to adhere them to the surface. This adhesive can be difficult to remove and create a gummy, sticky mess. Fortunately, you can remove the gummed label and its adhesive residue with the help of WD-40. WD-40 is a water-displacing spray that has thousands of uses, including removing tough labels.

      Pull off as much of the label as possible with your fingers. If needed, use the back of a butter knife to scrape the label off.

      Spray the WD-40 onto what is left of the label and the glue. Allow the WD-40 to sit on the surface for several minutes.

      Dampen a cloth with cool water. Rub the gummed label with the cloth.

      Continue applying the WD-40 and rubbing with the damp cloth until you have removed the gummed label.

      Wipe the surface clean with a clean, soapy cloth. Rinse the area with a clean cloth dampened in cool water. Wipe dry with a towel.
