How to Remove a Rockford Fosgate RFX-9020

Rockford Fosgate began building automotive radios and accessories in 1973. Founded by Jim Fosgate, the company introduced the RFX-9020 model in 2003. If you installed the RFX-9020 radio in your car and need to remove it to perform repairs or replace it, you can do so with ease. When you originally purchased the radio, it came with a set of Rockford Fosgate removal keys. You'll need these keys to remove the radio. If you can't find them, you'll need to contact Rockford Fosgate to order replacements.

Grasp the plastic trim piece surrounding the Rockford Fosgate radio. Pull the trim piece off to remove it. You'll now see the removal key entry slots on either side of the radio.

Insert the Rockford Fosgate removal keys into the entry slots. The handle edge of the keys should be pointing outward on each side; the keys will not go in the other way. Push the keys in firmly.

    • 3

Slide the RFX9020 out carefully. On the back of the radio, you should see two connections. One is a wiring harness; the other is the antenna adapter.

Unplug the Rockford Fosgate radio wiring harness, then unplug the antenna adapter.
