Place the wheel chocks in front of the front tires. Raise the rear of the Ford up using the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the vehicle and raise it to the frame.
- 2
Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel with the lug wrench and pull the wheel off the Ford. Remove the brake caliper using a socket and ratchet. Secure the caliper to the shock absorber with a wire tie. Pull the old rotor off the wheel. Some vehicles might have retaining clips on the lugs to hold the rotor in place. If your Ford does, pull them off with the pliers.
- 3
Put the new rotor on the wheel assembly. If you have retaining clips for the rotors, slide them onto the wheel lugs. Cut the wire tie securing the caliper to the strut using the pliers. Put the caliper on the mounting bracket and tighten the bolts. Place the wheel on the Ford and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.

Remove the jack stand from under the Ford and lower the vehicle to the ground. Repeat the process on the other wheel.

How to Repair My Ford 1991 Rear Rotor Brakes
The rear rotor brakes on the '91 Ford are not hard to replace. Even if you have no experience working on an automobile, it should only take you about 30 minutes per wheel. The brake rotors and pads use friction to stop the vehicle. As the pads wear, they get thinner. They have a strip of metal on them to warn you when they are getting too thin. However, you should never depend on that to tell you when to service the brake. If the strip is out of position, the rivets migth damage the rotors before the warning device starts squeaking.
