Proxy Server Setup Tutorial

When a Windows Server acts as a proxy server it becomes a mediator between a Web browser and the World Wide Web. A proxy server also enhances performance on the network by storing copies of often accessed Web pages. Setting up a proxy server involves configuring the Web browser so it goes through the proxy server when attempting to access Web sites.

      Logon to the Windows computer using an account with administrative rights.

      Browse to the Web browser installed on your computer; for example, click "Start," then "Internet Explorer."

      Click "Tools," then "Internet Options."

      Click "Connections," then "LAN settings."

      Check the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" box and in the "Address" field type the name of the proxy server.

      Click "OK" to save these settings.
