How to Replace the Rear Rotors on a Dodge 2500

The rear brake rotors are not difficult to replace on the Dodge 2500. You can change them right in your driveway rather than paying a repair garage to make the repair. The back brake rotors use friction and hydraulics to stop the truck. As you depress the brake pedal, fluid runs through the brake lines to the calipers. The calipers force out a piston and squeeze the rotors between the brake pads to slow and stop the Dodge.

Park the Dodge on a level surface, turn off the ignition and place the wheel chocks in front of the front wheels. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels with the lug wrench, turning counterclockwise. Raise the truck up with the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the truck near the jacking point and raise it to the frame.

Remove the wheel's lug nuts using the lug wrench. Remove the brake caliper using a socket and ratchet. Force the piston back inside of the caliper part way using the c-clamp. Close the jaws on the clamp with the back of the caliper and the brake pad inside of the jaws and twist the clamp closed. Secure the brake caliper to the shock absorber using a wire tie.

Pull the rotor off the wheel assembly and put the new one on. Cut the wire tie using the pliers and pace the brake caliper in the mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Replace the wheel on the truck and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Repeat the process on the other rear wheel.

Remove the jack stand from under the Dodge after raising the jack to the vehicle. Lower the truck to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts on both rear wheels.
