How to Troubleshoot a ProForm Bike Button

The ProForm company produces fitness equipment for home gyms and fitness centers, including incline trainers, elliptical machines, strength machines, treadmills and both upright and recumbent bikes. Most ProForm bikes have a computerized console with buttons that operate the power, workout options, speed, difficulty and the ProForm iFit technology system. While the ProForm bike options should work well when plugged in properly to a grounded power supply, if problems occur with the console, troubleshooting the buttons may help offer a solution.
    • 1

Ensure the ProForm bike is turned "On" and the circuit breaker switch at the base of the device has not been tripped. Reset the switch if necessary and reset local fuses or circuit breakers, as well, if power was recently lost and then restored.

    • 2

Unplug and turn off the ProForm bike if the power supply is properly connected but the console is blinking, shows zeros, or the buttons are not functioning properly. Use a standard screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the battery cover on the back of the console in place. Remove the battery compartment cover and take out the old batteries. Replace with 4 "D" batteries and close the battery cover and return the screw to its place. Restore power to the bike.

Push and hold the "Start" button if the console is not beginning the desired workout, changing settings as desired or is only blinking rapidly. This indicates that the console is in demo mode. Insert the console key and push the down arrow to turn off this mode.

    • 4

Begin to pedal or push a button on the console if the console buttons do not light up. The machine must be in use or motion in order to turn on the console buttons.

    • 5

Remove and reinsert the ProForm iFit card if the iFit program is not working properly. Ensure the iFit card is positioned with the metal contacts facing down toward the slot. An indicator light will illuminate when the card is positioned correctly.

    • 6

Push the resistance buttons up or down if the volume on the console is too loud to increase or decrease the sound.

    • 7

Turn off the ProForm bike and unplug from the power supply if the above steps do not resolve the problem. Contact an authorized service technician for assistance.
