How to Troubleshoot Streaming a Live Webcast With a Projector

Using a projector to view remote images during a webcast can help viewers see the images clearly. Adding equipment to a webcast, however, adds more room for error. Problems may arise with either the webcam, software, projector or connection (both physical and Internet). Always do a test run to make sure the equipment works before the live webcast.

Check all the connections. Ensure that the connection between the computer and the projector is solid. Make sure the computer has a working Internet connection (ideally high-speed). If the unit does not power on, then make sure everything is plugged into the power outlet.

Analyze the computer's display settings. If the projector does not show any images, then the computer may not be configured correctly to transmit video signals to the projector. Open the Control Panel of the computer ("Start" > "Control Panel"). Click on the video card settings (different label depending on the card). Configure the computer to output its display to the projector using the display properties.

Check to make sure the projector is using the correct input. Many projectors have multiple inputs, such as RCA, HDMI and VGA. Select the appropriate input using the options on the projector.

Turn off and turn on all devices. Occasionally, a reboot will reset old configurations that are not working.

Check to make sure the connection ports are not damaged. For example, the VGA port has pins that must connect to holes. If a single pin is bent or missing, the connection will not work.
