How to Troubleshoot a Sunbeam Coffeemaker

The Sunbeam Grind & Brew 12-cup programmable coffeemaker allows you to use whole beans or grounds when preparing a pot. While you can appreciate the convenience of setting the cycle ahead of time or brewing on demand, malfunctions can ruin your plans for a hot cup of coffee. If this happens, troubleshoot the coffeemaker before resorting to replacement or a service call.
  • No Coffee

    • 1

Check the Sunbeam coffeemaker's plug to ensure it is properly plugged into the socket.

    • 2

Look at your coffeemaker's water window to check the level of water. Fill if necessary.

    • 3

Lift the filter basket and replace it properly, then reset the carafe squarely on the warmer, as the Sunbeam coffeemaker can malfunction if these components are placed incorrectly.

    • 4

Make sure the green "Brew Now" switch illuminates.

    Overflowing Basket

    • 1

Rinse and return the permanent filter or replace the paper filter. Use only one paper filter -- two or more can stick together, causing a blockage when liquids try to pass through. Replace coffee grounds with the proper amount, as too many grounds also can back up the Sunbeam coffeemaker.

    • 2

Set the filter basket properly, then set the carafe squarely on the warmer, as improper placement of either component can result in overflow.

    • 3

Confirm that the lid is on the carafe.

    • 4

      Restart the brewing process.

    Miscellaneous Issues

    • 1

Confirm that the coffee grounds used are for automatic-drip coffeemakers, if the coffee tastes bad.

    • 2

Check for proper placement of the filter basket if your coffee contains grounds.

    • 3

Clean the Sunbeam coffeemaker thoroughly if the brewing cycle is particularly slow.
