The HP 6910p Business Laptop. Kutay Tanir/Photodisc/Getty Images One of the more successful products to emerge from the marriage of Hewlett Packard and Compaq Computers, the HP 6910p made its debut in the middle of 2007. HP's consumer target for the 6910p was the mid-range business laptop user and, as such, the unit featured almost every element the market required. The HP 6910p is no longer available for sale by the manufacturer.
General Specifications
-
At the heart of the HP 6910p was the 2.0 GHz T7250 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, bolstered by 2 GB of DDR2 memory, which was upgradable to 4 GB. The laptop was delivered with the Windows Vista Business operating system loaded on a 120 GB 5400 RPM internal hard drive. An internal 56k modem, one gigabit network card and an a/b/g WiFi interface supplied Internet and network connectivity. Additional media hardware included a CD/DVD RW optical drive and a smart card slot for enterprise-level security. In addition to the smart card slot, the 6910p supplied three USB 2.0 slots, jacks for a microphone and a head set, RJ-11 and RJ-45 sockets, a FireWire slot, a fingerprint reader for security and an S-Video output. The 14.1-inch video display rested on a 13x9.5x1.4 inch chassis and weighed in at 5.1 pounds without the 1.1 pound AC adapter, placing it in the 'thin and light" category used by several reviewers and forums. The HP 6910p video display was powered by a 128 megabyte ATI mobile graphics processor and featured stereo speakers mounted on the front side of the lower keyboard which "pleasantly surprised" CNET reviewers with their sound quality.
Scalability
-
The HP 6910p offered a laundry list of upgradeable components, including the Intel processor, the hard drive, the DVD and the WiFi card. Memory could also be doubled to 4 GB. On the opposite end of the spectrum, HP offered a "downgrade" of the standard Windows Vista Business operating system to Windows XP Professional, which was somewhat more popular with many IT managers at the time.
Miscellaneous
-
HP offered several service options with its entire business laptop line including the 6910p. Other options consisted of carrying cases, automobile power adapters, security locks, external mouse and keyboard and a convenient rack-mount attachment for server monitoring.
