Natural Mosquito Repellent: Garlic

Chemical repellents, such as DEET-based repellents, are typically used to repel mosquitoes, but some home remedies also work well. Garlic is a natural product that repels mosquitoes and protects you against bug bites.
  • Why It Works

    • Mosquitoes use a sense of smell to locate humans and bite them. The belief is that the garlic changes your scent, as it's released through your pores. This smell makes it harder for the mosquitoes to find you.

    Uses

    • You have several options when it comes to using garlic as a mosquito repellent, including eating a large amount of garlic or eating garlic regularly. Spreading a garlic-based jelly or spray on your skin is another option.

    Considerations

    • Applying garlic-based sprays around your lawn may also help repel mosquitoes because it changes the scent of the surrounding area. You'll need to reapply the spray often for this to work effectively and keep mosquitoes away.
