Senior Activities in Port Lavaca, Texas

  • Volunteer

    • Volunteering is one way to pass the time that is also beneficial the community. First, think about what you are passionate about. If you have an interest in preserving the historic downtown area, you could contact the nonprofit organization Main Street Inc. They may have opportunities for help with their local preservation efforts. If you aren't sure what to do, contact RSVP, a national organization that specializes in helping seniors find suitable volunteer opportunities. There is a branch in nearby Corpus Christi, and there are often numerous opportunities in the Port Lavaca area.

    Exercise

    • Go for a stroll at the walking track at Lighthouse Beach Park. The track is only a mile long, perfect for most seniors. If you'd like more exercise, you can always take a few more laps. Another place for a relaxing walk is at Port Lavaca Peninsula. While sauntering through this park, you should stop to take in some of the sights. This area is known for its great views of the ocean and excellent birdwatching. For golfers, the 3,054 yard, nine-hole course at Hatch Bend has been in operation since 1957.

    Socialize

    • Visit the Calhoun County Senior Citizens Association. Here you can meet other seniors and interact through the association's planned monthly activities. The organization was formed in 1975, and its mission is to make life more meaningful for seniors and to ensure that they have the resources they need to maintain independent living for as long as possible.
