What Does the KIA Extended Warranty Cover?

Kia offers one of the longest, most extensive warranties in the auto industry. According to Kia, the extended warranty is designed to give "Kia owners an added safeguard against unforeseen service and repairs."
  • Basic and Extended Waranties

    • New Kias come with a basic warranty that covers almost all components on the vehicle. This warranty remains in effect until you have driven 60,000 miles or five years have passed, whichever comes first. An extended warranty, called the Limited Powertrain Warranty, begins upon the expiration of the basic warranty and offers a limited coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles from the date of first use.

    Engine

    • The Powertrain Warranty covers repairs in the engine on the following parts: cylinder block, cylinder head, all internal parts, seals and gaskets, cover, valve cover, flywheel, oil pump and water pump.

    Transmission and Transaxle

    • During the period of the extended warranty, Kia will provide transmission repairs for the transmission case, transfer case, torque converter, internal parts, seals and gaskets. For the transaxle, the warranty covers the internal parts, torque converter, drive shafts, universal joints, front hubs, bearings, seals and gaskets.

    Other Parts

    • The extended warranty also covers repairs to the vehicle's axles including the axle shafts, C-V joints (couplings), supports and seals, and hub and wheel bearings. The warranty also covers the front and rear differentials and the propeller shafts.

    Exclusions

    • Kia warranties do not cover regular maintenance or repairs for damage caused by lack of maintenance. Kia will also not cover damage to the vehicle due to factors beyond the manufacturer's control such as misuse of the vehicle or accidents. Certain items such as air conditioning charge, battery, paint and audio system have a more limited warranty of 12 to 36 months.
