Why Is Corn Oil Unhealthy for Cars?

As the price of oil gets higher, gasoline prices will continue to climb, and consumers and governments are looking for alternative fuels. One option that has been thrown about is corn-based ethanol.
  • Corn Ethanol

    • Corn ethanol is a fuel made from corn as a biomass through a process that turns the biomass into fuel. There are two types of corn ethanol production: dry milling and wet milling.

Why Is It Bad For Your Car

    • In older cars, high corn ethanol blends have eaten through hoses and other parts of the car that were not equipped to handle anything other than gas. Cars older than 2006 can not use E15 blend, which is 15 percent ethanol. They have to use E10 or there will be problems.

    Emissions

    • In addition to eating through hoses and other internal parts, having corn based ethanol did nothing to reduce emissions in older cars. It only raised the cost of gasoline, it did nothing worthwhile.
