Windows File System Recovery

Many versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system use the Recovery Console, a file system recovery tool. The Recovery Console can be used to access and fix the NTFS, FAT and FAT32 file system volumes in order to make changes and repair operating system files.
  • Recovery Console Installation

    • The Recovery Console application can be accessed by running the setup CD for the Windows operating system that is installed on the computer or by booting the setup CD directly when starting up the computer. The Recovery Console can also be installed from the setup CD onto the system and will make itself available at startup.

    Recovery Console Command Prompt

    • You can use the Recovery Console application to bring up a command prompt that is separate from the standard Windows command prompt. This command prompt can be used to access files that are saved on the hard disk. A number of command actions can be used in the Recovery Console command prompt to make changes, run disk checks, delete files and disable drives.

    Using the Recovery Console

    • You'll be able to perform a number of different administrative tasks after the Recovery Console has been accessed. The Recovery Console can be used to reinstall the running operating system, install specific operating system programs or files and repair damaged parts of the system.
