Tablet PCs provide both convenience and portability to students, teachers and on-the-go professionals. Both Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Business include support for Tablet PCs and offer several applications and tools that specifically utilize, or were designed for, the pen and tablet.
Handwriting Recognition
-
Windows Vista's Handwriting Recognition trains the Tablet PC to recognize a user's handwriting and convert the writing to text. Vista can insert the converted text into any application that accepts keyboard input.
Windows Mobility Center
-
Windows Vista Tablet PC users can conveniently change settings related to the screen, the speakers, the wireless network and the battery using Windows Mobility Center. Windows Mobility Center displays all of these options in one window, allowing tablet users to change their computer's settings at the flick of a pen.
Snipping Tool
-
Snipping Tool captures a user-designated area of the screen. Users can then draw, write on, or highlight the captured image, and save or email the modified screenshot.
Microsoft OneNote
-
OneNote allows Tablet PC users to create personalized notes in a template styled similarly to a notebook or three-ring binder. Users can write notes, draw pictures and diagrams, and mark or highlight text. OneNote can organize topics in different tabs, allowing users to conveniently switch between school subjects or office tasks.
Start Inking
-
Microsoft Office 2007 allows Windows Vista Tablet PC users to add handwriting or drawings to a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation or email message. "Start Inking" allows users to swap between different drawing tools (a ballpoint pen, a felt tip pen and a highlighter), as well as change the color and weight of the pen or highlighter.
